Reflections on Nepali Cultural Camp

July 28, 2018

By Sambhav Bhandari

The three-day cultural and spiritual camp led by Guru Dr. Chintamani Yogi from Nepal gave me an opportunity to learn a lot about our Nepali culture. I learned about special Pujas and daily mantras. I also learned a Sanskrit prayer that goes like this, “Buddham sarnam gachami dhamam sarnam gachami shangam sarnam gachami.” It was so fun learning the secrets of Nepal. I was born in America, so I didn’t know much about Nepal, but this summer camp taught me a lot of things about Nepal. I was amazed!

We also learned many songs and one chant that goes like this “truth, love, peace; truth, love, peace; selfless service, and non-violence.” It was so fun singing the chant and the songs, but after an hour I got a kind of bored because we kept repeating the same song again and again! However, that boredom went away once we started learning tons of yoga poses like frog, bunny, camel, lion, snake, and bicycling and laughing. It was very fun! The bad thing was that I had a leg cramp at the end.

To sum up, the camp was awesome. It was sad that the Guruji had to leave in three days. I hope he comes back to Los Angeles next year with more ideas and stays with us for at least a week. I bet it’s going to be awesome again. I also would like to thank the Guruji for coming all the way from Nepal just for teaching us about our culture. Thank you Guruji!

I would like to dedicate these reflections on the cultural and spiritual camp organized on July 21 to July 23, 2018 to Guru Dr. Chintamani Yogi, Shree Pashupatinath & Buddha Mandir, and all the volunteers and parents who worked hard to make the camp an awesome one. I hope to see everyone next summer.
