More than 70 planned protests were organized by CODEPINK and Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, a U.S.-based anti-war coalition, along with other groups. <\/span><\/p>\n From Tampa to Philadelphia and San Francisco to New York, protesters carried signs and chanted anti-war slogans.<\/p>\n President Donald Trump ordered Friday\u2019s airstrike near Baghdad\u2019s international airport that killed <\/span>Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran\u2019s elite Quds Force who has been blamed for attacks on U.S. troops and American allies going back decades. Iran has vowed retribution, raising fears of an all-out war, but it\u2019s unclear how or when a response might coProtest organizers said the Trump administration has essentially started a war with Iran by assassinating Soleimani.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In Miami, nearly 50 protesters gathered. Drivers heard people shouting, \u201cNo more drone murders,\u201d \u201cWe want peace now\u201d and \u201cWhat do we want? Peace in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n A few hundred demonstrators gathered in Times Square on Saturday chanting \u201cNo justice, no peace, U.S. out of the Middle East!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe United States is trying to use Iraq as a proxy war,\u201d said Russell Branca, 72, of Queens. \u201cIf the United States and Iran are going to fights it\u2019s not going to be in the United States and it\u2019s not going to be in Iran, it\u2019ll be in other places. And it\u2019s just crazy because none of this is necessary.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n In Minneapolis, protesters gathered near the University of Minnesota holding signs and chanting.
