LOS ANGELES, August 24: A documentary about the Nepalese festival of Tihar is being released in Los Angeles, California, on August 31. “Nepalis and non-Nepalis who are interested but have a little or no knowledge about Nepali festivals are the target audience,” says producer and director Jaswant Dev Shrestha.
The documentary that features the five-day Hindu festival will be shown for seven days in Landmark’s Nuart Theatre at 11272 Santa Monika Boulevard, Los Angeles, from August 31-September 6. The 30-minute long film will start at 12:00 and the cost is $5 per person. “I’m not intending to make money from this movie; my goal is to promote Nepali culture to the western audience,” says Shrestha. The audience will understand the bonding between animals and humans besides learning how this festival is celebrated differently in the Kathmandu Valley, rural hills, and the southern plains that border India.
