Kathmandu, Nov 13: Nepal has qualified into the second round of the Asian qualifying competition for Olympic women’s football.
Nepal remained undefeated in the first round of the qualification held in Myanmar. In today’s last league game, Nepal tied 1-1 against Bangladesh. Though Nepal failed to end as group winner or runner-up, it made it through as the third best team of the first round of qualification games.
In the match held at the Thuwunna stadium in Yangon, Myanmar today, Nepal took a lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Niru Thapa. However Nepal conceded in injury time of the second half to finish the game at a 1-1 draw.
A total of 18 countries from Asia are competing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics to be held in 2020. The second round of qualification will be held in coming April. Three teams will be selected for the third round of the qualification that will involve a total of eight teams. Only two countries from Asia will qualify for the Olympics. (RSS)
