Kathmandu, Dec 7 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the SAARC Charter Day is an occasion for the Member States to renew commitment to realize the collective vision of a peaceful, prosperous and integrated South Asia.
Giving a message on the occasion of the 34th SAARC Charter Day, the Indian PM conveyed felicitations and best wishes to all fellow citizens of SAARC Member States.
“As a founding member of SAARC, India is committed to strengthening regional cooperation and integration. Our initiatives in recent years, such as the launch of South Asia Satellite, extension of India’s National Knowledge Network to South Asian Countries and ever continued support to the South Asian University and the SAARC Disaster Management Centre (Interim Unit) are geared towards promoting people-to-people contacts and connectivity in the region,” he said, reminding that in its journey of over three decades, SAARC has made progress.
He, however, said it has been below the region’s full potential. “An environment of peace and security is essential for regional cooperation to flourish and achieve economic development and prosperity of our people,” Indian PM emphasized. (RSS)
