Kathmandu, March 17: The government has been scrutinizing the activities of Biplab-led Communist Party of Nepal.
The Home Ministry, following the March 12 Cabinet decision with the announcement of Biplab-led group as a criminal and violent gang and against the existing law, has started carrying out surveillance on its activities and taking action against those found involved in it.
Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and National Investigation Department have beefed up their moves after the government directed them to adopt high alertness.
Police Spokesperson Uttamraj Subedi said that high alertness was maintained in all 77 districts as well as peace and security strengthened. He added that the security personnel, deputed for security of designated personalities, were also directed to adopt high alertness.
The government has decided to take action against any organisation, group and person directly or indirectly involved with Biplab-led group, drawing a conclusion that recent activities of Biplab-led group were violent and criminal.
The Home Ministry issued a 35-day notice on March 15 to the Biplab-led group to submit the illegal weapons to the government.
Police drew the conclusion that Biplab group was found involved in bomb explosion at Ncell tower, Nakkhu, of Lalitpur, on February 22 where a person lost his life and two others were injured. The group also carried out bomb explosions at many other places of the country. Police data show the involvement this group in various criminal activities including explosions and extortions.
Some days ago, Nepal Communist Party Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ revealed that he had faced threat of attack, to which the police responded that they were providing security to VIPs and VVIPs at zero risk. “The group banned by the government is criminal one. A circular has been issued to the police across the country to arrest the persons of the banned group. No one is exempted from carrying out criminal activities under a political backup,” said the Police Spokesperson Subedi.
The meeting of the state level security committee held by the Home Ministry on various occasions discussed the activities of the group and decided that such activities were criminal ones but not the political.
Following a government ban, the police arrested 11 cadres and leaders of the group including politburo member Mohan Karki. The cadres and leaders of the group found involved in any criminal activity would be arrested, said Suraj Kumar Shrestha, Spokesperson for the Armed Police Force. (RSS)
