San Diego, June 16: Nepalese Ambassador to the United States of America Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki expressed pleasure over the achievements made Nepali nationals in the United States.
Addressing a gathering of Nepali community for the first time in San Diego on Saturday, Dr. Karki lauded the academic and professional achievements of Nepalis.
“The government of Nepal and the Nepali people are proud of your progress in your respective fields,” Ambassador Karki said. “I haven’t heard anything negative about Nepalis in course of my interactions with business and political leaders in the past four years,” he said. “Our Nepali brothers and sisters have established themselves as very successful doctors, engineers, scientists, professors, and business leaders all across America.”
Nepalis have worked in many reputed tech companies in San Diego as researchers and engineers. Unlike Nepali communities in other parts of the US, Nepalis are united in this region and most of them are professionals.
Honorary Consul General of the Government of Nepal Rishi P. Dhakal hosted the event in association with San Diego Nepalese Association (SDNA), which is the only Nepali community organization active in San Diego. Addressing the gathering, Dhakal said the interaction was organized because of Dr. Karki’s willingness to meet and greet the Nepalis in San Diego. Long-time residents of San Diego Gopal Yogi and Manita Yogi, founders of SDNA, expressed gratitude to the attendees for participating in the interaction despite a short notice.
Ambassador Dr. Karki is in San Diego, California, with members of the foreign Diplomatic Corps for a three-day event (June 16-18, 2019) for the 25th Experience America trip to San Diego organized by the US Department of State and the Office of the Chief of Protocol.
According to a release issued by the US Department of State, over 35 foreign ambassadors – representing countries across four continents – have joined Chief of Protocol of the United States Sean P. Lawler to engage local business and community leaders and spotlight America’s communities. “Led by the Department of State, Experience America connects foreign ambassadors with academic, business, community, and cultural leaders with the goal of building relationships to promote economic investment, commerce, and dialogue” the release said, adding, “Chiefs of Mission stationed in Washington, DC learn firsthand about American culture, history, and industry while encouraging commerce and trade.”
