Los Angeles, February 15:
Dissatisfied with the budget for border security passed by the Congress yesterday, President Donald Trump on Friday declared a national emergency to fund the wall along US-Mexico border.
Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump tried to justify his action by saying that he had to declare a national emergency to prevent “an invasion of our country with drugs, with human traffickers, with all types of criminals and gangs.”
NPR radio cited White House officials as saying that Trump’s executive action, including the emergency declaration, will free up about $8 billion for border wall construction. “That includes the $1.375 billion in the funding bill passed by Congress on Thursday.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have sharply criticized the president’s action.
