Los Ángeles, January 19: US President Donald Trump on Saturday offered to support Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for some 300 thousand immigrants and Dreamers (immigrants brought to the US illegally as children) in exchange for a border wall.
However, the Democrats haven’t accepted the President’s offer that could benefit thousands of Nepalis. The Trump administration has already announced to terminate the TPS protections for about 10,000 Nepalis. If the Democratic lawmakers accept Trump’s offer, Nepali immigrants enjoying this status will not face deportation.
Trump’s offer came in an attempt to reopen the Federal Government. “In a White House speech on Saturday, Trump also offered to extend the Temporary Protected Status program that blocks deportation of certain immigrants fleeing civil unrest or natural disasters,” NPR radio reported late this afternoon.
