Geographically, Arizona is located in the southwestern region of the United States and is the 6th largest state in terms of area and 14th most populous. It shares its border with the American states of Utah, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and the Mexican states of Baja California and Sonora.
Historically, in 1539, a Spanish priest Marcos de Niza was the first European to arrive in Arizona. The first permanent European settlement was established in Tubac. The city of Tucson was established by the Spanish in 1775. The state was originally a part of Mexico. The United States then took possession of the state only in 1848 during the Mexican-American war as Mexico ceded most of the territory there. Later on, the US acquired the southernmost part of current Arizona to make it what it is today. It officially achieved statehood as the last of the 48 conterminous states of the United States on February 14th, 1912. The state was primarily occupied by many indigenous people and still is home to many Native Americans and reservations. In fact, the Native American population makes up a tenth of the state’s population today. Other than the Native Americans, the state also has a big population of Hispanics living there.
Arizona is a beautiful concoction of vast and majestic deserts, beautiful and dense forests, stunning mountains, many water bodies, and miles of splendid shoreline. The Grand Canyon, which is one of the seven natural wonders of the world is the ultimate attraction of this state. No wonder, the state is also known as the Grand Canyon State. Along with this, the state is also blessed with other popular destinations such as Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, Sedona, Hoover dam, Havasu Falls, etc.
* Some additional facts about the state:
- The Saguaro cactus is the official state flower.

- Arizona is also well known for its five C’s: Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, and Climate.
- Arizona’s Sonoran desert is the only place on the earth where the Saguaro cactus grows. It is the largest cactus in the United States.
The universities of this state also employ dozens of Nepalese as Professors, Scientists, Researchers, and staff members. Many other Nepalese immigrants work in the retail sectors and small businesses, many owning their own.
